The above title is a pun, or play on words, if you prefer. Some may call it a quip, or witticism, without the wit part. Bon mot anyone? I took the expression "this is a stick up" and ran with it. Many people say puns are the lowest form of humor, not counting Dane Cook. Those people are correct. Is Dane Cook still a current reference? Insert Larry the Cable Guy if that makes you feel better. That last sentence doesn't sound right.
Wednesday, May 7, at 11:35 PM on CBS, I will be appearing on the Late Show with David Letterman. Please watch. I implore you. When was the last time you were implored? I was just recently beseeched. What would I do without my online thesaurus? I would be lost. Adrift. At sea, and also astray.
Starting Sunday, May 11, the Stand Uppity tour begins. It's finally here. Everyone is talking about it, especially Marc Maron and Eugene Mirman, the other comics on the tour. Now it's your turn to make a difference. Sure you do a lot already. You text your vote for American Idol, and participate in CNN viewer polls. That's great. Why not really change the world and buy tickets to see a comedy show? Quit your job, rent a van and catch all nine shows. For tickets, info, or information go here:
http://www.236.com/standuppity. Also, if this Shtick-Up-Date hasn't soured you on my writing, I have a blog you can read on the 23/6 website. When you go to the above mentioned link, click on The Room at the top of the page and then scroll down until you get mouse elbow, and enjoy.
Love,
Andy Kindler
I just saw Mark Maron at the DC Improv. Now if I can just see you and Emo Phillips, I will have seen my favorite comics from when I was growing up (you are older than me.) Come play the DC Improv! I can get in there for free!

Great show in Chicago last night! How can you be charging so little to see so much great comedy? I'm posting here because I like my anonymity and 23/6 makes you register to comment. Funk that.
I think you're the funniest guys around. And genuinely funny, not like most comics who are trying too hard to be funny. You guys can forget your jokes or get interrupted by some dork in the audience and still make me laugh until I cry. Not to say that's my overall impression of the Stand Uppity Tour, or anything. (They have jokes! Funny, funny jokes.)
I'm just saying it's a rare and wonderful thing to go see a show and end up NOT wishing I'd just gone home. Being comfortable with the fact that you're funny and we can all just move on from there is a quality a lot of comics lack, and it can be painful to watch. You guys are painfully funny in the COMEDIC sense. Thanks for brightening my Monday. You rock!

Lewis Black's Root of all Evil is the first I've seen of you, which is probably not flattering. However, I've since looked up anything I possibly could find on the web. You, along with Greg Giraldo, I find to be the most witty and cutting edge contemporary comedians. I am interested in doing anything possible in motivating a New York area visit this summer, including organization and promotion. Unfortunately I just missed you last month, but hopefully you'll be back soon.
All the best,
Ev

Andy Kindler, are you not blogging because you're afraid people will talk about the show in Montreal? Because I can't stop ranting about it.
Greg Behre...however you spell his name?! Really? That was just awful. Horrifying. Those old, lifelong comedic failures are an alternative to good, as Brendon Small would say. Craparoo is too cute a word to apply to a guy like that. And wasn't he doing the Dane Cook walk you hate? What the -- ?!
Also, didn't that other catcher's-mitt-face guy already waste enough of everyone's time on Last Comic Standing, at the expense of other, worthy comedians (who don't, say, abuse rape victims while finishing up a set)? What a hosejob that show is, every year. And now its influence seems to be sleazing into what's been my favorite live alternative, each year: your show at the Just for Laughs festival.
I don't understand how someone with such high comedic standards could inflict this unfunny garbage on his audience. Did the festival somehow foist those guys on you, or was this really your selection of comics you believe to be talented?
I was in New York City yesterday and flew home with fresh bagels, which I put into airtight bags and froze per your instructions. This morning's was delicious. But I will not be watching the Cinderella-roadie-cokehead-looking-guy's talk show or reading his misogynist book as a result of what I took to be your hearty recommendation in Montreal.
The other, talented comics in your show were good to great, though, and we enjoyed your new jokes. Thanks.

I agree with the above postings about how hilarious you are. My friend and I watch your performance in the Home Movies behind-the-scenes featurette regularly and laugh our asses off. Thanks for being so funny.

Did you know that the link that sent you to the standup tour page also had a link that brought you back to your web site that linked back to the tour- after an hour of this my hard drive crashed. I can't see your tour now as the memories of this fiasco are too vivid in my mind,...as opposed to the memories that reside in my knee cap which aren't vivid at all- although when I had that miniscus operation there was some drainage and I have oft wondered if that viscous fluid was perhaps memories that I couldn't recall as my brain resides elsewhere...I think in Peoria (that's a funny town name isn't it? jokes that end with funny town names are usually successful even if the premise is absurd- Podunk is another name that can be inserted. I would avoid San Antonio as there is more than one syllable and their basketball team is too good. This is way too long to be in parenthesis...)

JP. My knees started hurting halfway through your post. Is that a good sign, a bad sign, or just signage?

It is an excellent sign for sure! I saw you for the first time on a TV special and then caught a bunch of old Letterman You Tubes- you honestly make me laugh in the tradition of the old greats- King, Berle, Green,(this is not one person- these are last names; if it were one person this would be a blues artist and not a comic.) I look forward to more!
Have you ever wondered if Menudo were a punk band would they be called Cow Stomach Soup? - now if you were Dane Cook you would take that joke and use it!
